A running account of the "race without an entry fee"..... The Tuesday night ride

Tuesday the 24th

The Burgster's Rule of Terror Continues!

The ride storms back with a vengeance after a rained-out week. Everyone was happy to be back on course with the excellent weather.
Once the ride got into the back roads of Cheshire, the Ryan O' & Alan B show continued, as has been the norm for this year. This week it was Co-starring Mike Grome and Chris C. These guys kept the pace crisp heading towards the light on Route 68.  During this time, there were no attacks. Alan B tried a couple of times to surge off the front, but the main attacks were being saved for later on. The whole group got the green light going through Route 68, which led to Hacker and Hunter P surging off the front on Moss Farms. That got the attention of all and the pace quickened from there.
Later on Moss Farms, the Cheshire Squad was doing its best to control the pace and attack off the front. Ben Bruce, Ryan O, Dana R, and Dillon P, all chipping in and getting in attacks along with Alan B and Hunter P.
Alan B had a strong attack through the chicane and up the hill to Marion Avenue. He pulled off a gap there along with Big Red. Those two had a little bit of a gap, but it all was brought back together by the light on Route 322. Little T had a mechanical issue plus the road after 322 was chip-sealed so the ride went to neutral mode for the trip down and on to Mount Vernon. Once it got going again, Alan B took off the front once again. That was short-lived though, and for the most part, the ride was altogether heading down Mount Vernon. Heading towards the corner for Welch Road, Alan B search hard off the front along with Ryan O'Hara and Hunter P. Also along for the ride was Hacker, and Chris C. That led to lots of tiny gaps heading down Welch Road. There was enough firepower behind the attackers to sew everything up though.
Heading up the hill and to the corner for West Street, Chris C led things out with Hunter P behind. Then Alan B attacked hard with only Sean Cahill responding. Hunter P eventually closed the gap but then had to pause for a red light before the Sprint line. Everybody rolled through quickly, but Sean Cahill was the only one in a good spot to Sprint. He ends up taking the points there, with Nuemotion coming across the line a little ways behind. From there the ride regrouped, and there were no further attacks until Crossing back over Route 322. Making the new left-hand Corner towards Route 10, Brian Girard, Alan B and Big Red, were pushing a good pace up the risers there. The light on Route 10 was red though so it was all back together. On the other side of the intersection. Alan took off again this time taking nuemotion and Ryan O'Hara with him. Then Hacker bridged up. That group of four started to work on a gap heading down East Johnson Avenue. As everyone climbed the hill towards the corner for Cheshire Rd, Hunter P jumped across and through the leaders. That got everyone behind working hard, Sean Cahill, Ben Bruce and a couple of others chipping in to try and keep it together as the ride got close to the long gradual uphill of Route 70.
Once the ride got onto the climb on route 70 / Meriden Rd Alan B attacked with only Sean Cahill going with him. Those two looked like they would ride away, but behind Chris C, Hunter P, and Big Red were all working hard to keep the pace going at the front. For the most part it was all together up the climb and over it. Giving Little T a great shot at taking the Hickory Hill Sprint. From there the ride regrouped at the red light at 68 / 70. Past that the ride was standard stuff heading back into Hamden. For the finale, thanks for a fast lead out from Big Red and Ben Bruce, Little T takes the final sprint points on Tuttle.
