A running account of the "race without an entry fee"..... The Tuesday night ride

Tuesday the 13th

Another day, another Throwdown....Today was a calmer day for the TWC....

This week, the CCR crew nearly got taken out by a tweenage girl driver en route to the ride. No one down but Dillon P suffered a skid flat on the Shop Demo pair of 404's. So he missed the first half of the ride on account of the rim being a tad too deep for the CO2 cartridge.

The rest of us were a little late but none worse for wear.

The Peleton was being led into the roads of Cheshire by Mike McG, Matt from Empire and Eric M. Eric is having a stellar season so far and is quickly charging his way to the Cat2's.

The pace starting out wasnt too bad and everyone was together all the way thru the first third of the ride to West Main st in Cheshire. There was earlier than usual pacing from Mike McG and Rondo, along with the usual swarm of Keltic and Stage 1 riders. Little T busted out some early power as well, charging up the initial riser on Mountain Rd. He took along with him a strong Gregg F from CCR but there was plenty of guys to keep the pace going on past Higgans road and for the rest of Mountain Rd.

Onto Moss farms where Chris B from CCR jumped early but was quickly matched by Chris C and Empire Matt. Going thru the chicane there was some dangerous looking faces up front, (hacker, hunter, Mike McG, Little T, Rondo, Joe K) but they all followed Empire Matt and Eric M up the hill onto Marion. Mike McG, Hunter, and Joe K lit it up a bit going into the industrial park, but nothing too severe.

Into the industrial park where Rondo, Jesse from Keltic, prolly Greg C from Keltic too, Eric M, and Chris C all went to work to single file us all out. The pace was a 6.98 on a 1-1o scale. A brief split opened up but didnt last too long. Turning onto West Johnson saw Mason from Dartmouth attack pretty hard on the hill. There was a good effort to match the speed, Kyle F and Chris C doing a good job here. Hacker countered hard half way up the hill, quickly caught and then passed Mason. He was on his way alone when some heavy traffic at the intersection for Peck lane slowed him and everyone else down. When we all got thru, Hacker still had a bit of a gap to work with going up to Rienhard. Mike McG stamped hard to get up to him and the two were officially free going up the riser on Reinhard. Empire Matt started the bridge and took with him Julio and Crazy Chris(?) from Stage 1. They were able to get to the 2 out front, who seemed to sit up, and Matt gets the prize for being first to the corner.

everyone was together for the ride downhill and onto Peck Ln. Eric M and Gregg F started things off going up the riser, Hunter P, Joe K, Rondo and others finished it fast. Getting back to route 10 it was all together. The ride back was predictable. The Stop and Shop sprint was weirded out by a red light, but it was all Little T and Hack attack.

Coming back into Hamden, the finale was a little crazy. not unsafe, just different. Hacker, Julio, and a couple of others were spotted out of the saddle.

soooooo
Rondo was the first one back who did things by the book.

On a editorial note; we'll be trying to add a name to the "roster" each week.... Preferably based on who had a strong ride that week.

Was it just me or did it seem that the drivers were real bad last night? There were a couple instances where cars just came through stop signs witjout looking or stopping. The worst was the 3-way stop on Higgans(?) and Mountain Road, that lady came down the hill and through the sign without looking. Gos know's we weren't about to stop either. That could have been ugly.

As always, good write-up.

Chris , I think we should show a little patience with the motorists on the course , they pay taxes just like us . We need to share the road with them . You are right about the spot on post be the guys at Cheshire Cycles . Let me tell you guys I can see the improvement of you guys from week to week . It seems that everyone is getting there form ! Well have a great week .

Wow to that last one. way to go Ron.

Anyway, i just saw that Empire Matt won Bear MTN this past weekend. Congrats on that Matt. Killer race to be best at.

And i just spun down Tuttle rd going toward Cheshire\Wallingford. I did the proposed alternative route (backwards). Let me say... If Tuttle ever gets repaved, there is a better ride to be had than the current one. Maybe not exactly as Dillon presented it, but turning right at Wentworths and going COUNTERCLOCKWISE leads to quieter, staighter, roads with less traffic.

I'm all for tradition and love the current route, maybe a second weekly ride? What about a 7AM ride?

...are we seeing a "softer" side of Rondo? Is Rondo off his medication?

Rondo.... Seriously?!!!

Is it possible for someone to announce at the beginning of the ride the "no sprint rule for the end"? I have been pleasantly surprised at how few crashes there are in this ride during all the years I have been hanging on... but its been getting a tad more dangerous lately, it seems - and traffic is unpredictable. No need to spoil the fun!

I agree. WHAT HAPPENED TO RONDO???? He must be on his medication! Someone has to fire him up.

HEY RONDO FU!!!!!!!

The write-up should've mentioned that our Media-shy Photographer, Gregg F, took honors in the "Real Man's Finish" as he got a jump up Shepard Ave with Chris B and C'Dale Rick following.

Media-shy?!? real man finish?!?

Okay... Good ride this week everyone, although the traffic was a bit dicey, Rondo makes a good point. Props to Mason, Julio and the other Chris "C" Chapleau all riding well.

there was a bit of contact after the left turn onto brooksvale rd, a tall rider on a bianchi had to peel off into someone's driveway to avoid a crash... I know the potholes on these streets aren't helping but I'd hate to see a rider(s) go down while we're charging to the next stop sign.

I'll be heading up the hill (shepard ave) for the next few rides, I've got a couple races with fininshing climbs coming up...

I will also be going up Shep ave next week and i am taking my glove off and slapping Little T squarely across the face with it... Too many times he got to that god-forsaken first mailbox 1st - back when we were going up the hill...

Guys I have turned over a new leaf There is no need for meds . I think that maybe we should have some kind of bike safety seminar in Cheshire as like a good will give back to the community that allows us to use there roads . What do you guys think ? Maybe we could have it at Cheshire cycles ? Also I'm in the process of revamping my blog , so if any of you have any ideas drop me an email .

Thanks
Rondo

For the sake of Men everywhere, Shut up and ride! I think your Pink thongs are starting to cut off the circulation to your "BRAINS"!!!

FU Chris

How'd I do?
I have to hand it to Rondo, It's hard work!
I'm exhausted, taking a nap...

Dillion the only thing Rondo would have done different is spell every other word wrong and your sentences were too understandable. Usually, 2 or 3 readings are nessasary. But otherwise nice attempt.

That's funny LOL :) I'm sorry I didn't believe that spelling was that important . I do realize now that It was wrong of me not to take your time into consideration I will try to take more care in my spelling and grammar .

If you don't want people to sprint you really ought to change that by-line.A race is a race whether you pay a fee or not.
